MUTARE: The Asian community here have been warned that their days in the province are numbered if they continue sabotaging black businesses by unnecessarily hiking rentals on their properties.
The stern warning was given by Zanu PF Manicaland youth leader Mubuso Chinguno. He was addressing youths during a clean-up campaign which was meant to commemorate President Robert Mugabe 93rd birthday at Meikles Park, recently.
Chinguno said the Zanu PF Youth League was worried by Indians who were hiking rentals for black business persons operating in the city.
“We are worried on how these Indians are behaving in the city. They are hiking rentals as an indirect way to push our youths out of business. This is sabotage indectly. These are the people who own every building in First Street but population wise they are less than 200 but they own every building in the city centre,” said Chinguno.
He also accused the Asian community in Chipinge and Mutare for not sprucing up their buildings so as to facelift both towns.
“Economic wise these are people who keep money in their houses. They don’t deposit their money in banks. We are saying we are tired of this kind of behaviour by Indians. They don’t improve cities and towns.
“We are warning them in Manicaland to change their behaviour or else they should pack and leave the province,” said Chinguno.
