FORMER Zanu PF Mashonaland Central chairperson, Godfrey Tsenengamu, 34, was Thursday dragged to court on allegations of trying to topple President Robert Mugabe by unconstitutional means.

He is also accused of convening a meeting in which he incited war veterans to turn against Mugabe without seeking permission from authorities first.

He was represented by his lawyer Zivanai Macharaga and was ordered to apply for bail at the High Court.

Tsenengamu was remanded to March 9 by magistrate Victoria Mashamba.

It is the state’s case that his address, Tsenengamu claimed that Mugabe was not Presidential material, adding that his successor was Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“The ball is now in your hands, the war veterans, the way you removed the late Ndabaning Sithole to replace him with Mugabe. We now want you to lead us so that Mnanngagwa becomes the next president,” he allegedly said.

The state further claims that he said, “It is time we go open about this succession thing because some of us have since identified our candidate and its none other than Emmerson Mnanagagwa. If Mugabe doesn’t like him, it’s up to him but we are now saying we want him to lead us.

“To Mnangagwa, Chikara, I am m sorry you may say we exposed you but that is the game now Shumba. We want you to take over from Gushungo and make sure that you take care of his family so we are going to hit the campaign trail for you as our presidential candidate next year.”

Tsenengamu, together with other ‘rogue’ youths, were expelled from Zanu PF last year for alleged indiscipline as they had gone on the rampage attacking Mugabe using their Facebook pages and the private media.
