A 19 YEAR-OLD Masvingo man who struggled to pay a $10 debt he owed a friend decided to settle the obligation by writing his June mathematics exam instead, a local court heard.
Rawlings Pazororo, 19, and Tinashe Marumbwa, 22, were both charged with fraud when they appeared before magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla on Monday.
Prosecutor James Nyamapfeni told the court that sometime in June this year there was a misunderstanding between the pair with Murambwa accusing Pazororo of not wanting to pay the money he owed him.
The court heard that Pazororo, who knew Tinashe was having difficulties in passing his Ordinary Level mathematics exams, offered to sit the June maths paper his behalf as a way of paying the debt.
On 3 June, the day of the examination, Pazororo proceeded to Masvingo High School with Tinashe's identity card and misrepresented to the school authorities that he was Tinashe.
Asked why he committed the offence Pazororo said he had heard stories of people writing exams on behalf of others without being caught and wanted to try his luck.
“The only way was for me to offer a service and I have heard a number of people who contract others to write exams for them without being caught.
