A MUTARE man who made a false report to the police that he had lost a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone and cash amounting to $300 during a beer drink was this week slapped with a 30 day jail sentence.
Archibald Mafura, 30, appeared before Mutare magistrate, Waini Makamera, facing charges of deliberately supplying false information to a public authority, a crime under section 180 of the Codification and Reform Act.
He told the court that he gave false information to the police with the intention to fix his friends, Darlington Mangwizo and Kuda Muzvidzwa, following a misunderstanding he had with them in January last year.
“Your Worship, I didn’t know that I was committing an offence. What I wanted was to fix the two for a misunderstanding we had in January,” said Mafura during mitigation.
According to agreed facts, on August 10, Mafura went to Sakubva police station and deliberately supplied information to officers claiming that the pair had stolen his $300 and a Samsung galaxy phone.
